Here’s a simple recipe for Fried Idli
Ingredients:
1. | Leftover idlis (you can use fresh ones too) |
2. | 2 tablespoons oil |
3. | 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds |
4. | 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds |
5. | 1/2 teaspoon urad dal (split black gram) |
6. | A pinch of asafoetida (hing) |
7. | 1 small onion, finely chopped |
8. | 1 small tomato, finely chopped |
9. | 1/2 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste |
10. | 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder |
11. | 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste) |
12. | Salt to taste |
13. | Chopped coriander leaves for garnish |
Instructions:
1. | Cut the leftover idlis into bite-sized pieces. If you are using fresh idlis, allow them to cool and firm up a bit before cutting. |
2. | Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and urad dal. Let them splutter. |
3. | Add a pinch of asafoetida (hing) for flavor. |
4. | Add finely chopped onions and sauté until they become translucent. |
5. | Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute until the raw smell disappears. |
6. | Add finely chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft. |
7. | Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt to taste. Mix well. |
8. | Add the cut idli pieces to the pan and gently toss them with the masala until the idlis are well coated. |
9. | Cook for a few minutes until the idlis are heated through and get a slightly crispy texture on the edges. |
10. | Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. |
