In January 2024, the top 5 midsize SUVs were led by the Mahindra Scorpio, followed by the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Hyundai Creta. The Mahindra Scorpio secured the top position with 14,293 units sold, marking a significant 64 percent year-on-year growth compared to January 2023’s 8,715 units. The Grand Vitara maintained Maruti Suzuki’s status as the leading SUV maker in India this fiscal year with strong sales.
With 13,438 units sold, the Grand Vitara experienced a 55 percent year-on-year surge, surpassing the Creta, which underwent a notable update. The Hyundai Creta recorded 13,212 unit sales, down 12 percent year-on-year from January 2023’s 15,037 units. Monthly sales for the Creta are expected to rise with an impressive 51,000 bookings within a month of its launch.
Featuring a redesigned exterior and interior, the new Creta adheres to the latest Sensuous Sportiness design philosophy. It boasts a new 1.5L turbo petrol engine with 160 PS and 253 Nm of peak torque, paired exclusively with a seven-speed DCT. The Creta N Line is also set to debut soon.
The Mahindra XUV700 ranked fourth with 7,206 units sold, marking a 25 percent year-on-year sales increase. Recently, the XUV700 expanded its range with a new six-seater variant, starting at Rs. 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Kia Seltos, having received a facelift, took fifth place in January 2024 with 6,391 units sold, though experiencing a 39 percent year-on-year decline.
The midsize SUV segment anticipates the arrival of several new models with electric powertrains over the next two years.
