Tata Expands CNG Portfolio, Teases New CNG SUV – Details
Tata is making significant strides in the CNG segment by introducing the Tiago CNG AMT and Tigor CNG AMT, with the Nexon CNG on the horizon to compete with Maruti Suzuki’s S-CNG lineup. Rumors also suggest a potential CNG variant for the upcoming Curvv model. Here’s a breakdown:
Tata Tiago CNG AMT & Tigor CNG AMT:
Tata Motors has unveiled the Tiago hatchback and Tigor compact sedan with an industry-first feature: a CNG-powered automatic variant. Both models feature a 5-speed AMT paired with a 1.2L three-cylinder petrol engine, boasting a claimed fuel efficiency of 28.06 Km per kg.
The Tiago iCNG AMT is available in XTA, XZA+, and XZA NRG variants, while the Tigor iCNG AMT is offered in the top-end XZA and XZA+ trims. Noteworthy features include direct start in CNG mode and advanced safety technologies. Despite these updates, both models retain their twin-cylinder technology with two 30-liter capacity CNG tanks cleverly placed below the boot, ensuring minimal intrusion into boot space.
Tata Nexon CNG:
Tata’s popular Nexon is gearing up to introduce a CNG option, as previewed by the Nexon iCNG concept at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 in New Delhi. Set to be based on the Nexon facelift, the CNG variant will offer a unique proposition as the first CNG-equipped turbocharged petrol car in India.
It’s expected to be priced approximately Rs. 1 lakh higher than the equivalent ICE variant, aiming to attract a wider consumer base. With Tata currently ranked as the second best-selling CNG carmaker in India, the addition of a Nexon CNG variant is anticipated to further boost sales. Speculation also hints at the possibility of a CNG variant for the upcoming Curvv model in the future.
