In the T20 World Cup 2024, which bowler will be the most lethal? Former South African fast bowler Vernon Philander, impressed by Jasprit Bumrah’s recent performances across all formats of cricket, has predicted that alongside being the key to India’s success in the upcoming T20 World Cup, Bumrah will also prove to be the best fast bowler.
Philander stated, ‘Bumrah is a complete bowler at the moment. He possesses tremendous talent and has mastered the art of accurate bowling, which has brought him success in Test cricket. Previously, he used to strive for wicket-taking deliveries all the time, which proved costly, but now he exhibits consistency in his performances.’
Bumrah poised to be a game-changer in T20 World Cup
‘He is the kind of bowler who can never be underestimated in T20 cricket. He swings the new ball and forces batsmen to play ahead of their comfort zones. His yorkers are potent, precisely what is needed in T20 cricket. I believe he will be the most successful fast bowler in the T20 World Cup.’
Mohammed Shami also utilizes seam skillfully
The T20 World Cup will be held in June in the West Indies and the United States. Praising Mohammed Shami, Philander said, ‘He swings the ball brilliantly. As a South African who has taken 224 wickets in 64 Tests, I am impressed by India’s current fast bowlers. Besides Bumrah, Mohammed Shami also uses seam skillfully. Bowling in South Africa is not easy, but after seeing their performances on Indian pitches, they deserve praise.’
A positive sign for Indian cricket
Philander mentioned that having fast bowlers who perform exceptionally well on foreign soil is a positive sign for Indian cricket. He said, ‘Every time the Indian team comes here, they perform better than the last time. While spinners have won matches for India in the subcontinent, now they also have fast bowlers who can win matches. It was good to see India win in Australia, credit to Virat Kohli as well for his captaincy, which brought out the best from the bowlers.
