Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh is encouraging Sarfaraz Khan to seize the opportunity in Test cricket for India. With KL Rahul sidelined due to injury, the 26-year-old Mumbai batsman has been selected for the Indian Test team’s second match against England. Expected to make his Test debut in Visakhapatnam, batting at No. 4 in the absence of Rahul and Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz has performed well in the Ranji Trophy and for India A.
Due to personal reasons, Kohli will miss the first two Tests. Harbhajan stresses that Sarfaraz must not squander this chance, as someone will have to step aside when Kohli returns. Failing to perform could make Sarfaraz the automatic choice to make way for Kohli.
“Sarfaraz Khan will have to make the most of this chance because when Virat Kohli returns, someone will have to go out. So, he cannot afford to waste this opportunity. He has worked very hard and piled up a lot of runs in domestic cricket,” said Harbhajan.
Despite consistently performing well in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai over the last three seasons, Sarfaraz had not been called up to the Test team until now. His recent impressive outings, including a notable 161-run innings against England Lions, have earned him his maiden India call-up for the upcoming Test against England.
