Namibia Mourns President Geingob Passes Away

Namibia’s President, Hage Geingob, aged 82, passed away at Lady Pohamba Hospital in Windhoek, where he had been receiving treatment for cancer, according to the presidency’s announcement. The president’s death occurred early on Sunday, and while the cause of death was not specified in the social media post on platform X, it follows the revelation last month that he had been diagnosed with cancer after a routine medical check-up. The presidency had mentioned plans for him to seek treatment in the United States.

President Geingob’s medical team was attending to him at Lady Pohamba Hospital when he passed away. Notably, in 2014, during his tenure as prime minister, he publicly disclosed his successful battle with prostate cancer. The subsequent year saw him assuming the presidency.

With Namibia gearing up for presidential and parliamentary elections later this year, President Geingob’s death carries significant implications for the nation’s political landscape.
