The forthcoming 7-seater Maruti Grand Vitara, internally labeled as Y17, is slated for launch in India next year, featuring potential options of both mild and strong hybrid engines. Reports indicate Maruti has codenamed this SUV as Y17, based on the Grand Vitara model.
Expected to sport a slightly elongated wheelbase to accommodate a third row, the SUV may also undergo minor design alterations to distinguish itself from its two-row counterpart. It is anticipated to offer two powertrain choices, akin to the Grand Vitara.
The primary option could be a mild hybrid, potentially coupled with a manual transmission and the option for all-wheel drive. Currently, the Grand Vitara offers this powertrain with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, supported by the Suzuki Hybrid Vehicle System (SHVS). This SHVS mild hybrid unit complements the 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder K15C petrol engine, delivering 102 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque, alongside features like idle-stop system and brake energy regeneration.
Additionally, there might be a strong hybrid variant, combining the 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder petrol engine (91 bhp and 122 Nm of torque) with a 78 bhp-141 Nm electric motor, resulting in a total output of 114 bhp. The strong hybrid Grand Vitara models are expected to feature front-wheel drive and come with an e-CVT automatic transmission, boasting an impressive fuel economy of 28 Kmpl and providing approximately 25 km of electric-only range.
In terms of features, the 7-seater SUV is projected to be well-equipped, akin to its five-seater counterpart. Its features list may include a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, six airbags, a 360-degree camera system, automatic climate control, a semi-digital cluster, HUD, push-button start/stop, adjustable headrests, and more.
